In the aftermath of World War II, the French and Italians joined forces to launch an ambitious program of cinematographic co-productions. Unique in the context of European construction, for some fifty years, nearly two thousand films have emerged from this economic and cultural partnership. The greatest filmmakers have signed films which have seen capital from Paris and Rome converge. The driving forces of two countries have joined forces to produce masterpieces signed by Luchino Visconti, Vittorio De Sica, Roberto Rossellini, Federico Fellini, Michelangelo Anto nioni, Jean Renoir, René Clair, Alain Resnais, Jean - Luc Godard, Claude Sautet... The most famous actors have formed anthological couples: Gérard Philipe and Gina Lollobrigida, Yves Montand and Silvana Mangano, Jean - Paul Belmondo and Claudia Cardinale, Alain Delon and Monica Vitti, Marcello Mastroianni and Catherine Deneuve... within the framework of the celebrations of the First Century of Cinema, the idea was to publish a book which takes stock of this exemplary experience and which accompanies the homage paid to co-productions within the framework of the dedicated Annecy and Florence festivals, in France, in Italian cinema, in Italy, in French cinema.
