James Baldwin extends his addition to the rainbow sign God gave to Noah in the bible. In his two part book "The fire Next Time." He also writes a letter/ essay to his nephew James explaining the troubles he would face and how he must learn to forgive those who wrong him, or live in rage. He also gives us insight on the times he was facing with his Countrymen. And how sometimes they didn't understand why they reacted the way they chose to. In a response to James Baldwin Jesmyn Ward contributes a book of essays by different writers that attempt to explain, How it feels to be black in America today, in her book "The fire this time." Where several writers tell stories about their experience being black. Because of both of these beautiful artists "The Fire Within" was born. At a young age when I lost my father, all I remember is that I never knew how he felt about me. At this time in my life where I feel lost at times, and times when all I needed was someone to understand, realizing that without him I was lost at times, I attempted to fulfill my past promise to my 3 year old nephew who wanted me to write him a letter in the mail. In this essay/letter I decide to explain to my nephew and niece some of the troubles we face, and how they can keep their head on straight, by creating a lane for themselves. Hopefully with my essay contribution my niece and nephew will always know how I feel about them no matter what journey they are on in their lives. And, by the second half of this book they will learn how to always be free. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I have enjoyed writing this. And to my niece and nephew I hope you never feel lost.
