Engineering sciences in Germany remain a male domain, although for years, efforts have been made to balance gender relations in these areas. The author examines the question of whether and to what extent the asymmetrical gender relationship is rooted in the contents and cultures of engineering sciences themselves. Interviews with engineers are used to identify various key concepts that contribute to the maintenance of binary, heteronormative gender relations in this field.
