Describes the deportations of the Dutch Jews in 1942, the raids in Amsterdam, the difficulties of finding hiding addresses. Mentions individuals who helped Jews (e.g. Arnold Douwes, including excerpts from his wartime diary), and discusses aspects of life in hiding. Deals extensively with the evacuation and deportation of ca. 1,100 patients of the Jewish Psychiatric Hospital in Apeldoorn, and of 74 Jewish boys and 24 girls from the psycho-social youth department, in January 1943, under the active leadership of F.H. Aus der Fünten. All were deported to Auschwitz. Relates, also, the Nazi policy to exterminate the Jews, the roles of Adolf Eichmann and Rudolf Höss, the actions of the Einsatzgruppen in the USSR, the extermination camps in Poland, etc. Surveys, in particular, the establishment of Sobibór, the murder of the interned Jews, and the revolt on 14 October 1943. In all, 19 trains transported Dutch Jews to Sobibór.
