Jane Austen’s Persuasion is told from the hero’s point-of-view in the trilogy, Frederick Wentworth, Captain. The first of the novels is None But You which covers Book l of Persuasion. The story begins when the Captain arrives to visit his sister and her husband who now live at Kellynch Hall, the home of Sir Walter Elliot. The baronet has exhausted his finances and now must economize by leasing the family estate. This is not Wentworth’s first visit to the area or Kellynch Hall. Eight years before he came one summer to the area, met and fell in love with the baronet’s daughter, Anne Elliot. The romance was ended by her family and he left the area hurt and angry. When he returns, he is rich and very eligible. All the things he was not in the past. As he settles into the neighborhood, he is swept into the center of the large and gregarious Musgrove family. Anne is related by marriage to them, and this puts the two in company often. Believing himself to be free of feelings for Anne, he hopes to fall in love with Louisa Musgrove, a carefree and happy young woman just the right age. In short order he finds that he cannot stop comparing Louisa to Anne, with Louisa coming out second best. He finally admits to himself that he still cares deeply for Anne. Louisa soon after has an accident that reveals he is more deeply committed to her than he thought. The novel ends with Anne and Frederick not knowing what the future holds for either of them. None But You and its sequel For You Alone were written and published more than a decade ago. I edited them in an attempt to make them easier to read and to avoid merely avoid imitating Jane Austen's style. Now I write the story of Anne and Frederick, hoping to make their thoughts and desires true to the period rather than just trying to recreate the language. That being said, I am offering these works to readers who may remember them and for those who are new to the Austen fandom.
