Sammy Springbok is a young antelope struggling to survive the arid savanna of Central Africa. The intense heat is not the reason; Sammy and his herd are in constant danger from the stalking hunts of the lioness Serai and her pride. When Sammy has had his fill of near-death experiences, he teams up with Rhino, a grizzled drifter and would-be coach, to devise an unconventional yet effective way to defend his herd.
