Rehabilitation of a willow infestation and silt flat. A community volunteer group, with support from the local council and external funding, has employed adaptive management to create an Upper Blue Mountains Swamp from a highly degraded, incised and weed-infested silt flat. The impacts of weed invasion and of stormwater surges from the largely impermeable urban catchment have been addressed. The former environmental wasteland has been converted into a thriving and diverse community of wetland and riparian vegetation, birds and frogs; water quality is improved, significantly reducing the load of contaminants reaching the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. This book is an illustrated history of the 14-year project, documenting the integration of the various aspects of the project and the evolution of the site since work began.
