In addition to humans, non-human entities are often involved in the production, reproduction, editing, storage, transmission, presentation and reception of images. These include living and inanimate nature, technology that operates according to natural laws and also supposedly supernatural beings. The images affected by this are understood in this anthology as 'parahuman' because, on the one hand, they have different logics than human images, but on the other hand, the non-human ones do not completely displace the human instances, but enter into complex interactions with them. The book brings together contributions from different cultural science disciplines that span a wide range of parahuman image phenomena, ranging from ancient images of gods to current image recognition using artificial intelligence. It sees itself as a contribution to image praxeology that seeks to free the concept of the image from its anthropocentric limitations.
