ROGER LOWE has been referred to as the Samuel Pepys of Lancashire. This re-print of an unpublished edition of the diary compiled by the editor of the Leigh Chronicle, contains many interesting facts of local history in south Lancashire in particular the Leigh, Ashton, St. Helens and Wigan areas and is a good source of local names. The diary gives a vivid picture of everyday life in Lancashire in the seventeenth century and a fascinating insight into the character of Roger Lowe. The book also includes a record of deaths in the Ashton area and burials at Winwick church.
