This volume publishes the written acts of Hugh of Le Puiset, the ambitious and acquisitive bishop of Durham from 1153 to 1195--including an unusually large proportion of documents issued by the bishop as feudal landlord. Together with Volume 25, which will extend the coverage of Durham up to 1237, these Latin texts are important sources for the ecclesiastical, monastic and feudal history of northern England at a formative period.
