"In a series of philosophical discussions and artistic case studies, this book attempts to map out an affirmative and specifically materialist attitude to modern and contemporary art. The volume begins with the mapping out of the philosophical terrain 'beyond representation', and beyond the so-called crisis of representation (deconstruction). The argument is made for a return to aesthetics - an aesthetics of affect - and for the theorisation of art as an expanded and complex practice.
