The school of individual psychology was established by Austrian physician, psychotherapist, and psychoanalyst Alfred Adler (February 7, 1870 – May 28, 1937). It is acknowledged that his emphasis on the significance of inferiority complexes — or emotions of inferiority — isolates a factor that is crucial to personality development.
