Chronology of colonial settlement in Hobart, Tasmania, from 1799 to 1805. Describes events leading up to the first European settlement on the River Derwent, the abortive attempt at settlement at Port Phillip in Victoria, the struggling efforts of the Risdon Cove party under the charge of Bowen, the transfer of power to Collins, and the subsequent removal of the settlement to Sullivan's Cove. Looks at British settlement of Port Dalrymple, and invasion of Aboriginal lands. Includes full-colour illustrations, references and bibliography.
