Virtually all available texts that mention the beginnings of Mormon polygamy fail to take into account the theological teachings Joseph Smith introduced concomitantly with its practice. Volume 3 contains fifteen chapters discussing the doctrinal underpinnings of plural marriage. It also contains its own bibliography and index, which are not associated with volumes 1-2. It is designed to stand alone and to be a useful resource for individuals even if they have not read volumes 1-2.
