The peoples in Kumaon celebrate many different festivals according to their legends and old-age customs. They celebrate their festival with the ecstasy and happiness. There are many Kumaoni folk songs that are composed from these festivals. Some eminent festivals are "Ghughutiya", "Bhitoli" and "Harela", etc. This festival is widely known as Ghughutiya but also known by various names such as Uttarayani, Makraini, Makrain, Gholda, Ghowla, Chunyatyar, Khichdi Sangrand, and Pusyodiya. This festival is celebrated on the day of Makar - Sankranti every year. Though Makar Sankranti is observed in most of the country with great enthusiasm, by flying kites, taking dips in holy rivers and donating Khichdi (a mixture of rice and pulses), the style of Ghughutiya is very unique in Uttarakhand........
