
About the Book:- Elder abuse and neglect is a hidden crime in the family. Elder abuse or abuse of senior citizen by the immediate family members (caregiver) is not a new phenomenon, since it is a relatively recently recognised phenomenon, in-depth sociological studies are a few in India. The consequences of abuse are varied. Because of abuse, the quality of life of a senior citizen deteriorate. It is a grave violation of the humanrights of senior citizens too.By primary data, the author has tried to find out the prevalent types of elder abuse, trends of elder abuse and identified the factors responsible for it and also the chief abuser. Furthermore, the author also suggested measures to prevent elder abuse in the family. Through several case studies, the author described several issues related to abuse and neglect.The author offered several vital suggestions for the dignified existence of the senior citizens. About the Author:- Arvind Kumar Joshi is a Professor in the Department of sociology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. He has 40 years of teaching experience, and the core areas of his research interest include Sociology of Ageing, Industrial Sociology, and contemporary issues in Indian Society. He has authored three books. Several dozens of research papers/ articles to his credit published in national and international journals. He has written course material for Uttarakhand Open University (Haldwani, UK) and U.P. Rajarshi Tandon Open University (Prayagraj, UP.). He has presented papers in the International conferences abroad, i.e. at Fagerness (Norway), Montreal (Canada), Brisbane (Australia), Beijing (China), and Chiba (Japan).
