What is the first thing you think of when you hear (or read) “team building”? For those who are naturally active and/or outgoing, team building is often welcomed with open arms; however, for those who are introverted, and/or less athletically inclined, it’s often a cause of hesitation, fear, and anxiety. By conducting a series of short surveys, the author garnered the common opinions, and misconceptions, of what team building is. In an informal, first-person narrative, he shares his findings, some stories, anecdotes, humorous mishaps, and reveals the value that positive interactive experiences can bring to your team. This is not a book full of team building activities and exercises, but rather, a suggestive guide for the individual who is about to participate in, or who has been tasked with planning, a team building experience and has trepidation about it. Ultimately, readers will recognize that “team building” is not a “bad word”; understand what effective team building experiences entail, as well as when and how to host them; and ultimately, appreciate that team building can, and should, be FUN.
