Asif Jah VII Mir Osman Ali Khan was the protector and guarantor of the great tradition of Urdu poetry, therefore, his poetry upholds a specific tradition of poetry. The appropriate use of similes and metaphors, idioms and everyday language and expression is a clear evidence that his study is deep and his vision is broad. His ghazals are generally short and a qat'a (couplet) is necessarily written above each ghazal. The style of his poetry has been mostly the same as that of Lucknow, where the poetry of Pretense and Artificiality had its rich colors.
