"New Zealand was an early adopter of DNA forensic technology - the country's small, relatively isolated population has resulted in a remarkably high success rate for the technology compared to other countries. It has now been 20 years since the Criminal Investigations (Bodily Samples) Act 1995 was introduced, and since then the range and power of DNA forensics, as well as the powers of law enforcers to obtain DNA samples, have expanded rapidly, raising questions about the implications for criminal justice and human rights.
