About the Author A native of Chester, South Carolina, author Cynthia Hughes is a social worker, a motivational speaker, a songwriter and a playwright. With a passion for helping others, Ms. Hughes earned her Bachelor's in Sociology from the South Carolina State University and her Master's in Social Work from the University of Pittsburg. In 2012, she authored Unconditional Love, a biography of the late Dr. Lela Haynes Sessions, a Jeanes teacher whose life impacted political, social and racial history in SC. She has also written Just One Moment, a guide to help children handle divorce, and a children's book titled Can I Be President of the United States If I Am 8? Her commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of the families she serves has not gone unnoticed. In 2013, Ms. Hughes was named Social Worker of the Year for Orange County Public Schools. She is also the recipient of the 2014 Apples & Diamonds Gala Celebrity Educator Award and the 2015 Stellar Customer Service Award presented by the Superintendent of OCPS. A humble woman of faith, Ms. Hughes currently lives in Orlando with her family.
