This meticulously researched book is an enthralling examination of the trials, triumphs and tragedies of doctors, some of whom have taken incomprehensible and career-threatening risks. Drawing on his understanding of the medical world, John Wright objectively reports on the case histories of famous and infamous doctors, many of whose names will resonate for the reader - Haneef, Patel, McBride, Shipman and Adams. The author presents their stories without presumption, personal opinion, moral judgement or implied criticism. The great majority of these case histories rely on reports of the NSW Medical Board and its Tribunals, Court documents, judgements, letters and reputable media reports. Dr John Wright has enjoyed a distinguished career in medicine, within Australia and in England and the USA, both in hospitals and in universities. As a cardiothoracic surgeon, his special interest was open-heart surgery, particularly for the correction of childhood defects. He is the author of three surgical books.
