The Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC) of the European Commission commissioned Ecorys in June 2020, together with SportsEconAustria (SpEA), to undertake a mapping study on measuring the economic impact of COVID-19 on the sport sector in the European Union (EU). The key aims of this study were to support evidence-based policy making at both national and EU level, and to help the sport and public sector tackle and mitigate the socio-economic consequences of the pandemic on the sport industry.
