This study looks at the impact the ban on livestock exports from the Horn of Africa had on the livestock dependent economy of Somali Region in Ethiopia. To analyse the economy-wide effects of the ban, a Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) of the Somali Region economy was built. SAM is a comprehensive data framework representing the economy, where different economic agents, institutions (households, producers, government etc.), and flows of commodities and money between these agents are represented in the format of a square matrix.
