Europan is vijftien jaar in Nederland. In 1988 werd de eerste Europese architectuurprijsvraag voor jonge architecten georganiseerd. Van meet af aan is geworsteld met tegenstrijdigheden. De prijsvraag manoeuvreerde tussen verheven idealen en pragmatische doelstellingen. In 2000 nam Europan Nederland het besluit om de resultaten aan een kritische beschouwing te onderwerpen. Ton Verstegen onderzocht de vernieuwende werking; Ivan Nio de relatie tussen de Europan-thema's en 'het' debat; Margriet Pflug en Pieter Rings onderzochten de consequenties van deelname aan Europan bij respectievelijk de winnende architecten en de beschikbaarstellers van de locaties. This is Europan's fifteenth year in the Netherlands. The first European architecture competition for young architects was held in 1988. From the beginning, Europan Nederland has wrestled with contradictions. In 2000 they decided to subject the results to critical examination. Ton Verstegen researched the innovatory effects of the competition; Ivan Nio studied the relationship between Europan themes and 'the' debate; Margriet Pflug and Pieter Rings examined the consequences of participating in Europan for the winning architects and those making the sites available.
