Solving Public-Management Problems: A Case Study Approach continues the rich tradition of researching and presenting interesting, relevant and artistically written case studies for effective learning in management, public administration, and policy analysis courses. All of the cases emphasize problem solving and doing as a solid basis for lifelong learning. The authors have direct practical and academic experience dealing with the nearly 200 theoretical and problematic issues presented in the case studies. Each case study maximizes learning by being written from a pracademic orientation. That is, all cases have been jointly written with at least one practitioner and academic involved in researching and writing the scenario or incident. This case book is intended for undergraduate and graduate courses and training programs that link the theoretical and conceptual with the applied and practical aspects of learning by doing. Embedded in the cases are the enduring notions of leadership, management, motivation, innovation, cutback management, ethical reasoning, collaborative governance, discretionary authority, teamwork, lean production, negotiation, conflict resolution, employment discrimination, sustainability, New Public Management (NPM), and the formulation, implementation and assessment of public programs.
