The United States’ cities would be nothing today were it not for the contributions of migrants and immigrants during the American Industrial Revolution of the 19th century. This text, which was written to support elementary social studies curricula, examines the growth of U.S. cities. New York City, Boston, Chicago, and other major cities grew exponentially as factories created job opportunities for people in search of a better life.
