After a whirlwind romance, Evelyn Black is excited to start her new life with her husband, Peter, when the sudden passing of his uncle gives him the title of Lord Black, along with the Black family's remote manor, Blackthorn House. Separated from her family and the life she has always known, Evelyn is thrust into a new life in the middle of the wild Yorkshire Moors. She quickly realizes something is very wrong with Blackthorn House. The sound of children's laughter can be heard throughout the halls, the constant fog surrounding the house is filled with wailing specters, and Evelyn's dreams are plagued with visions of a woman wearing her mother's broken corpse like a suit. Furthermore, her new husband has become a stranger to her, treating her with barely veiled disdain. Unable to trust the rest of the staff, particularly the always-watching housekeeper Ms. Winters, and struggling to get answers from the frightened locals in the nearby village, Evelyn and her trusted servant Lilly must seek answers from the dead. They learn that the Black family has long kept a dark and terrible secret. A secret that threatens both of their lives and, now, the life of Evelyn's unborn baby. A secret involving a bargain paid in blood.
