Mary Marchi, her husband, and two daughters lived in Saudi Arabia for three years: 1972-1975. She tells the story of their life in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia as an American expatriate family by recounting activities through a collection of letters written home. Their experiences were the same as many who lived in Dhahran during that period¿learning to live in an ancient culture awakening to the modern world, home brewing drinkable spirits, bargaining in the market places, shopping in the nearby cities, and trips to small desert towns. The author unfolds her family¿s story from how they began their journey to an oil company camp in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia to their final trip outside the camp¿s Main Gate.
