
Who is Gianfranco Fini? is a Roman architect, painter and designer whose activity has long been intertwined with the Roman art scene. A friend of Franco Angeli and Tano Festa, Fini has long been a “flanker” of the so-called Scuola di Piazza del Popolo, participating among other things, with a video installation, in the legendary Teatro delle mostre set up by Plinio De Martiis in 1968 at La Tartaruga gallery. Our book - articulated in a long conversation, two critical essays and an illustrated registry with the most significant works created by Fini in different expressive fields - not only recounts the activity of a figure as multifaceted as he is little known, but also reconstructs the mood and behind-the-scenes of an unrepeatable era in art history. When the Rosati café in Rome was at the center of the world, pupular among artists such as Franco Angeli, Tano Festa, Mario Schifano, Mario Ceroli, Cy Twombly and other figures who played a decisive role in Gianfranco Fini’s life and career. If the adjective “nomadic” in the title alludes to the non-settling nature of this artist-architect who made several works around the world, the word “Monad” refers to the prototype of one of his futuristic armchair-sculptures made in 1969 for Mana Art Market. In 1966, while still a student, he began his activity as an associate architect, collaborating on projects such as the Academy of Fine Arts in Damascus and the Palazzo della Regione in L’ Aquila. In 1972 he created in Rome first the Linea Verde Studio and later the Fini Architettura Studio, with which he began an ‘independent activity designing villas and architectural structures for tourism and leisure, as well as in Italy, in countries such as Brazil, Greece, Turkey and, above all, the Dominican Republic, where he has lived and worked for more than thirty years.
