From the Introduction: In this monograph, we are looking for answers to two questions: First, to what extent and in what ways does the behaviour of former Soviet states and enterprises on international minerals markets constitute a threat to the health and profitability of the Canadian minerals industry? Second, what are the opportunities presented to the Canadian mining sector by rapid change in the former Soviet Union and what are the risks attendant on these opportunities?
