
The Caledon Mountain Slope Forest Area of Natural and Scientific Interest (ANSI) is one of the significant life science natural areas identified in 1976 in the Niagara Escarpment Plan Area. In the 1991 and 1992 field seasons, a detailed biological inventory and evaluation of the ANSI was carried out involving 57 person days of field work. This report describes the physical background of the area and the regional context of vegetation, flora, and fauna; the vegetation, flora and floristics, and fauna of the ANSI; and planning considerations, including evaluation of the Caledon Mountain Slope Forest ANSI, significant features, and recommendations. Appendices also include lists of vascular plants, mosses and liverworts, birds, mammals, and amphibians and reptiles, as well as a description of the methodology and the Niagara Escarpment vegetation community classification system.
