A critical edition of two Latin texts describing disputations between merchants of Genoa and Jews they met in their travels, ending in the conversion of the Jews. The introduction, in German (p. 1-133), describes the historical background, noting that the names of both merchants appear in Genoese documents and the disputations in all likelihood really took place, although the texts are not protocols but rather literary accounts written later. Comments that the anti-Jewish arguments are comparatively mild. The text describing the disputation at Ceuta in North Africa (p. 135-166) between the Genoese merchant Guglielmo Alfachino and a Jew of the town is found in MS A III 19 of the library of the University of Genoa. The critical edition of the disputation at Majorca (p. 167-300) is based on the Limor's diss. - Hebrew University of Jerusalem, 1984.
