Data mining is a step in the Knowledge Discovery in Databases process that consists of applying data analysis and discovery algorithms that produce a particular enumeration of patterns or models over the data. A broad view of data mining functionality is adopted as "data mining is the process of discovering interesting knowledge from large amounts of data stored either in databases, data warehouses, or other information repositories". Data mining is applied on large data-sets to unveil the wealth of knowledge buried therein. With enormous growth of databases due to increased usage of Word Wide Web, business automation, and other reasons, traditional methods fails to fulfill the increasing demand of data analysis. The emerging field of data mining promises to provide new techniques and intelligent tools to discover knowledge from very large databases.
