This is a collective work of ten research papers and essays by renowned civil and military experts from seven countries, heretofore unpublished in English, which shed light on the armed conflict in the South Atlantic with new findings and knowledge and a variety of international perspectives. It should be noted that, in an environment of freedom of thought and ideas, each author approached and developed the chapter of his authorship, with the sole limitation of rigor and academic quality established by the International Editorial Board, responsible for the evaluation of the contributions. Our most sincere gratitude to all of them for their unfailing commitment and professionalism. The spirit that informs this collective effort is one of unconventional approaches that break with the inertia of previous studies and publications on the Malvinas war, which have been heavily focused on the tactical and operational dimensions of the fighting or based on the testimonies and experiences of ex-combatants, without a more comprehensive and all-encompassing vision of the conflict. The structure and organization of the volume revolves around both political strategic and strategic-military dimensions of the conflict, with insights on the strategic calculus not only in London and Buenos Aires, but in Moscow, Washington, Santiago, Lima, and Berlin, among other places. It also includes special coverage of issues of regional security and humanitarian law, not to mention references to other major developments in international security in the subsequent four decades.
