This publication is a digest of research in recent decades concerning Queen Christina, a research field informed by new findings and shifts of scholarly perspective. These developments have helped to bring out partly new pictures of Christina, and the present volume contains articles by some of the foremost Christina scholars of our time. Previous and often negative verdicts about the Queen have been called into question, e.g. through the adoption of gender and queer perspectives. The years following Christina’s abdication are attracting more interest than used generally to be the case, and a study has also been made of the Queen as bibliophile. The publication presents various pictures of the Queen, illustrating the way in which myths and propaganda about her were created, not only in her lifetime but also following her death and right down to the present day. 0Exhibition: Royal Armory and Royal Castle, Stockholm, Sweden (2013).
