
Secretary's Message This book is to help children learn about three drugs - 'smokes', alcohol and betelnut. The book is based on three stores about three people who use these drugs.The important ideas in the book are:These drugs can harm the body.These drugs can change a person's behaviour.These drugs can also harm others who do not use them.It is easy to become addicted to these drugs.It is better NOT TO START using these drugs.People can be influenced by different things to use these drugs.The activities after each story will help children to identify and learn the important points about these drugs. It will also encourage them to teach others in their community about the dangers of using these drugs.It is hoped that after using this book our Grade 6 children will be able to make wise decisions about these drugs.This book is one of the items of instructional material produced for Community Schools in Papua New Guinea as part of the Education II Textbook Sub-project. -- J.E TetagaSecretary for Education (1988)
