Introduction to applied linguistic concepts and to basic literature, with special emphasis on applications of linguistic theory to prob- lems of first and second language acquisition and to language in social contexts. Purpose of this book is also concerned with the system- atic study of language structure, the role of language in communication, how the skills of second-language speakers develop, and the status of language as the product of particular cultures and other social groups.
