
Starting with an introduction to J&K state and an analysis of its culture called Kashmiriat, this book proceeds through an account of the Ethnic Triangle, the Mughal and the Hindu rule in Kashmir, the Muslim Awakening under Sheikh Abdullah and his efforts to build a new Kashmir. It discusses the demand of Kashmir Autonomy in the background of Centre-State Relations and the Recommendations of Sarkaria Commission. Summarizing the Autonomy Proposals the book analyses union Governments reaction to it. Pointing out that the doors are open for dialogue and that the search for solution continues, the book ends with the message that the solution to the problems of Kashmir Autonomy lies in an exercise in Centre-State relations acceptable to all parties alike.
