The Omagh Bombing of August 15, 1998 was and is seen as the single worst atrocity of the so-called 'Troubles' in Northern Ireland. In all 29 people were killed, eleven were children, not including the two unborn babies, and hundreds of people were injured. In response to allegations against the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC), the Office of the Police Ombudsman (OPONI) decided to investigate to see if the RUC responded 'appropriately'. The OPONI published its report on December 12, 2001. This book represents a thorough and critical account of the Omagh Bombing and the subsequent investigations. The authors were participants and witnesses of the events they describe. This first-hand knowledge of policing of the Bombing has created a thought-provoking and unique addition to the historical record. -- Publisher description
