Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, dubbed the brothers Grimm, are credited as the authors of popular fairy tales loved by children and shared by adults today. Both were born in Hanau, Germany, in the years of 1785 and 1786. With the death of their father, followed by a drop in family income, their mother pushed them to study law and philology at the University of Marburg. There, the brothers adopted an interest in medieval German literature and pursued a new career, in addition to their studies.
