The pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and consequent cardiovascular incidents is now an established fact, with the rupturing of vulnerable plaques leading to variable coronary flow, a fact that distinguishes between the three forms of ACS. With the resultant thrombosis, it is critical for the interventionalist to know when to resort to PCI. What causes the rupture: inflammation, infection or some other factor?
