This is a story about German immigrant Johann Martin Beck and his 8 descendant generations, from the perilous Atlantic crossing in 1749, to his indentured servitude, to fighting it out in the American Revolution and the Civil War, to westward migration into the plains, and the loss of their German identity; their is an interesting analysis of an enduring ethic and how they became Americans.
