The arrival of an interstate highway through Jefferson County accelerated the changes that were happening all over America in the early 1960s. The old had to make way for the new Farmland became subdivisions of a hundred homes overnight. Business and government struggled to keep pace with the growth. The people along the Meramec River fought flood and change with equal zest. A busy gas station not far from the Meramec River, stood as silent witness to the lives of the people who lived along its banks. Floyd's Tire Mart was the place to get a tank of gas, new tires - maybe a cup of coffee. For some, it was much more.
