I have always learned during my studies of Fine Arts to create a portfolio that has order. Derived from the contextual aspect of how the images connect to each other will establish the unity desired. Don't mix color and black/white photographs! Don't combine a portrait with a landscape! Do we not connect to each image individually and could not each image stand alone even if they are from different spectrums. We create unity through visual attributes of an image, and it does establish a nice rhythm. But can these characteristics not be the emotional connection it builds with the viewer? Ask yourself when viewing a portrait of women: Why am I drawn to her eyes? Now observe a landscape photograph: Why am I pulled into minuscule detail of trees? As you start to connect with each picture consider for a moment that the connection established is you, you have joined the images to create a cohesive series. The photographer has only enabled you to be the connection.Fifty or so photographs that are allowing you to create that so-called order.
