
A book written by historian Jayme Vargas and photographer Ruy Teixeira brings together national and international galleries and collections to provide an overview of the recent appreciation of modern Brazilian furniture production. With texts and photographic essays on 31 collections and galleries dedicated to modern Brazilian design, the book Horizonte ampliado - design moderna brasileiro highlights the way this material heritage is perceived today. A perception that has been cemented over the decades since its original period, and that identifies this production as an essential part of the modernizing trajectories of 20th century Brazil. Its pages also reveal the maturation of the environments that permeate modern Brazilian furniture today, as demonstrated by the high qualification and historical vision present in the collections of collectors and gallery owners portrayed in the work. In addition to the main specialized Brazilian galleries and the partnership with the Associação Mobiliário e Design Moderno Brasileiro, which represents some of them, the book also features the participation of important foreign houses that work with Brazilian furniture, reflecting the international insertion of the theme. By bringing together and presenting these points of view and key actions from recent history in parallel, the work demonstrates how pieces signed by names that are now considered icons of our design, such as Joaquim Tenreiro, Lina Bo Bardi, Sergio Rodrigues, José Zanine Caldas and Jorge Zalszupin, have experienced, over the last two decades, the consolidation of their recognition and exponential appreciation.
