The end of the seventeenth century was a turbulent time for Scotland - particularly the North Sea. Pirates roamed the North Sea seemingly at will. A titled man, who was also High Admiral of both the English and Scottish navies, used a pirate to address a slight leveled at him by the Governor General of the Dutch east India Company. The subsequent pirate attack on a Dutch merchant ship began the history of the Craig family, and a mission of vengeance.
