Teaching at the University of Virginia, Professor Harrison Gregg strikes up friendship with Thomas, an African American student that leads to an affair. Obeying his father, Thomas marries only to find that his wife is unfaithful. He renews his relationship with Gregg that is sexually consummated as Thomas and Gregg negotiate their way through the world. Thomas seeks a graduate degree in London. Gregg runs a political campaign in Washington state and discovers that his candidate is having an affair. Will they ever be united again?
