"Significant changes have occured during the past quarter of a century in our conception of the scope and pattern of world history. The new Times atlas of world history sets out to reflect changes and thus to present a view of world history appropriate to the age in which we live. Most historical atlases of an earlier generation were marked by their "Eurocentricity"...In the new Times atlas we have broken away from this traditional western view because we believe such a approach is misleading and untenable. Our aim has been to present a view of history which is world-wide in conception and presentation and which does justice, without prejudice or favour, to the achievements of all peoples in all ages and in all quarters of the globe."--Introduction.
