Following the publication of the Government's "Waste Strategy for England and Wales" in May 2000 the Environment Sub-committee of the House of Commons Select Committee on the environment, Transport and Regional Affairs resolved to investigate the progress made since the publication of its own report on sustainable waste management in June 1998. The Sub-committee is interested in examining whether the policies set out in the Government's strategy are sufficient to deliver sustainable waste management. To begin this investigation, and to inform its debate, the Sub-committee solicited written memoranda from interested parties. This publication contains the majority of the written memoranda received by the Sub-committee. Many of the memoranda deal with issues such as landfill, recycling and incineration.
