The Musée d'Orsay is a museum located in National Paris , on the left bank of the Seine , in the 7 th arrondissement , housed in the former Gare d'Orsay ( 1898 ) and inaugurated in 1986 . The museum's collections are painting and sculpture western 1848 to 1914 2 , as well as decorative arts, photography and architecture. The museum has the largest collection of Impressionist works in the world and you can see masterpieces of painting as The Luncheon on the Grass and Olympia of Edouard Manet , the dancer fourteen years of Degas , The Origin of the World , A Burial at Ornans , The Painter's Studio by Courbet or five paintings of the Rouen Cathedral Series of Monet and Bal du Moulin de la Galette by Renoir.
